The Austin Residence is a minimalist home located in Austin, Texas, designed by architecture firm Studio DuBois and interior designer firm Elizabeth Stanley Design.
The house sits on a gently sloping site with panoramic views of the city and garden spaces. It is composed of several horizontal concrete blocks and glazed strips.
The material is present in both exteriors and interiors combined with a neutral color palette and vintage-style furniture from the client’s personal collection.
Inside, large floor-to-ceiling windows frame the gardens that are visible from all parts of the house, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The light passes through easily, illuminating the spaces completely and providing thus a feeling of comfort and warmth.
The decoration is unique in form and texture. The wood creates a strong contrast with the concrete, while the color details come mainly from the artwork. Light colors were selected for the bed, carpet, sofa and curtains in the bedroom, bringing a simple and fresh feel.
Furnishings range from several classic pieces such as Pierre Jeanneret’s ‘Kangaroo’ chair, a Living Divani sofa, Charlotte Perriand stools and George Nakashima chairs, to contemporary items by Michael Anastassiades and Faye Toogood.
